Draymond Green issued a public apology Saturday for punching teammate Jordan Poole in practice this week and said rebuilding trust with his Golden State Warriors teammates will be key going forward.

On Friday, TMZ distributed a video of the incident on Wednesday that shows Green standing on the wing during stoppage time, while Poole is at the bottom line. Green walked over to Poole and stabbed him in the chest before Poole shoved Green. At that point, Green performed a swing with his right hand before both players went to the ground behind the basket while the staff moved to bid farewell to the exams.

“There’s a big embarrassment that comes with (it),” Green said Saturday. “Not just for myself, as I am the one doing the action…but the embarrassment that Jordan faces and this team has to deal with, this organization has to deal with. But the whole family of Jordan. His family watched the video. His mother, his father watched that video. If my mom could see that video, I know how she would feel.”

Green expressed grief over the incident in an initial apology to the team on Thursday and then left the facility as the defending NBA Warriors champion practiced without him.

Green said Saturday that he plans to be away from the team for at least a few more days. The veteran has been preparing for his 11th NBA season, all with the Warriors.

“It’s the immediate task to rebuild trust in our dressing room and pull everything back together to repeat and defend the championship,” Green said. “While that’s the least of my worries right now, it has to come first.”

Still have to decide how Green will be disciplined for the incident. Warriors general manager Bob Myers said he doesn’t think the penalty will include missing out on any games.

“For any suspension, sanctions, fines, we will handle it internally,” Myers said. “I understand you may have questions about that, but that will be an internal process.”

After a video detailing the incident was revealed by TMZ on Friday, ESPN reported that the team is working to find the source of the video using “every legal course of action.”

Kerr said there was high energy during Thursday’s workout.

“There’s a great vibe,” says Kerr. “We had a hellish prison. You have bumps in the road and you deal with it.”

Green, 32, is a four-time All-Star and a seven-time All-Defensive pick with a career average of 8.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Poole, 23, is entering his fourth season after the Warriors picked him 28 overall in the 2019 draft. He was explosive last season, averaging 18.5 points/game in 76 competition (51 starts).

“I love Jordan Poole; That’s my guy,” said Green, who admitted he didn’t know if his initial apology to the team on Thursday was well received by Poole. “I will still drive for Jordan, still stand for Jordan and do whatever I can to make Jordan’s job easy.”
