NBA: Immanuel Quickley’s career night lifts Knicks over Rockets

Immanuel Quickley scored a career-high 40, and the New York Knicks overcame three losses with a 137-115 win over the Houston Rockets on Monday.
Quickley finished 14/18 and made 5 3-pointers to lead the Knicks (43-33). He has joined Julius Randle, RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson in scoring 40-point games for the Knicks this season.
Randle added 26 points while Barrett scored 19 points to co-author a lead victory over Houston (18-58), who have lost 0-4 on the current five-game run. Brunson (hand) is not present.
Behind Quickley’s highest nine assists in the game, the Knicks finished with the highest 35 assists of the season while recording 58.1%.

Kevin Porter Jr. leading Houston with 26 points while Jalen Green added 19 and Kenyon Martin Jr. 18. Rookie Jabari Smith Jr. got a brace with 14 points and 11 rebounds plus 6 assists.
Quickley and Randle scored 11 points in the Knicks’ 13-6 run to open the third inning, a run that allowed the Knicks to take a 79-67 lead. Quickley did not disappoint, scoring at will and promptly whenever the Rockets showed up ready to make a rally. He scored 15 points with 5 assists in the third inning, and when Randle beat the whistle with a 3-pointer, the Knicks took a 102-90 lead.
When the Knicks opened the final half with an explosive 10-0 scoreline, the game was in full swing.
The Rockets joined the fight early, hitting 60% in the opening quarter to keep up. There were 12 lead changes and 4 draws in the first half, and while Martin led Houston by 11 points in the frame, Randle (15 points) and Quickley (13) combined 28.
The Knicks appeared to have taken control as they took their first double-digit lead 49-39 after losing to Josh Hart after losing less than five minutes to Houston in the second half. However, although the Rockets went nearly five minutes without a goal, the Knicks were unable to equalize. And when Green buried a basic jumper 19 feet back, Houston drew 49-49 with 5:12 left in the first half.
Quickley ended the Rockets’ 10-0 lead with a 3-pointer before adding a steal and forward and a jumper with 12.6 seconds remaining in the second half, giving the Knicks a 66 lead. -61 during the break. Barrett scored 12 points this time around to round out the Knicks’ tally, with Quickley and Randle combined for 39 points before the break.
