Neighbors react after homeowner Kenosha kills intruder in attack

Kenosha, Wis. (CBS 58) – Several residents in the normally quiet neighborhood of Kenosha are being shaken up, after a man allegedly attempted to break into several homes on Friday night, September 16.

According to the Kenosha Police Department, a homeowner at intersection 69order Street and 64order Avenue in Kenosha killed the suspect, after he broke into their home and attacked the homeowner.

Despite some misleading reports, the KPD confirmed to CBS 58 that no guns were involved in the melee.

Police were first called to the area around 7:20 p.m. Friday, because of reports of a suspicious man damaging a car and attempting to break into the home.

Neighbors told CBS 58 it started on 68th Street, a part of Kenosha known as “Christmas Lane.”

“Nothing really happens here other than Christmas time. I mean, you have a lot of traffic going and looking at the lights,” said one resident, Don Pe People’s. “Everybody in Kenosha would say this would be a pretty safe neighborhood to live in.”

After breaking into at least one home on Christmas Lane, the suspect is said to have crossed a street, arriving at 69order Street and 64order Avenue.

That’s where he is said to have broken into a house and been killed.

“I have family and relatives here, and some of them have heard banging and screaming,” said Alfredo Monroy, a neighbor of the house involved. “I know the neighbors and they are really nice and friendly. It’s sad that that happened to them.”

A nearby neighbor said at least a dozen police cars arrived at the scene.

While they did not see the suspect, they did see that the homeowners were safe.

“They were screaming at us that they were fine,” Monroy said. “I’m glad they were able to defend themselves.”

With a scary appearance in a safe neighborhood, residents want to know who the intruder is and what he wants.

“It’s really giving you a hard time, you know, do I need to lock the door right now or close my garage door?” People said.

The investigation is underway. The Kenosha Police Department and Medical Examiner plan to release more details in the coming days.
