Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger Says Everyone Pronounces His Last Name Wrong
Chad Kroeger, the frontman of Canadian rock band Nickelback, has revealed that everyone has mispronounced his last name over the years.
Speaking to Loudwire on a recent podcast, Kroeger explained that his last name is often butchered; people have said Kroh-ger, like the US grocery chain.
However, the musician was born in Hanna, Alta. insists it must be pronounced like Freddy Krueger, Nightmare on Elm Street serial killer.

“It’s Kroo-ger, don’t trust the internet,” said the musician.
He said he was slow to edit people because he didn’t want to go the wrong way.
“If I just stopped and went, ‘Actually, that’s Kroeger,’ I’d look like that commercial**k. So I’m like, I don’t care”.
He told the podcast that there were a number of people who tried to make sure they got it right, including Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell, who corrected one journalist at a time during a joint interview in 2004.
“I looked over at Jerry, and he said, ‘That’s your name, man. That’s your last name. ‘”

He continued: “Tell the guy on the other side how to say it in a reasonable way so he doesn’t say the wrong thing into that microphone and misinform everyone.

“I don’t care how many records you’ve sold or how many awards you’ve won or what you’ve done around the world… you never want to continue after Sevendust, because they’ll kick a ** and wipe you out on that stage. They are a force to be reckoned with and that is worth the goosebumps.”
Kroeger’s interview coincided with the announcement from the multi-platinum band that their latest album, Get Rollin’will be released in November.
