OXFORD, ma’am. – Ole Miss broke Tuesday night’s non-conference game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with three runs in the fifth inning and eight more in the sixth and won 11-1 in seven innings.
The Rebels (15-6) and the Golden Lions (12-8) were held to a 0-0 draw as Jacob Gonzalez made a two-way home run through the wall in the center right , followed by a solo out of the park into the left court to lead Ole Miss 3-0 after five completed games.
After the UAPB took the lead in season six, the Rebels took down eight more at the end of season six. With an opening game, TJ McCants scored the home goal, followed by a Will Furniss brace and a Garrett Wood walk. Wood, the team’s captain, started in third place in this game. Ethan Groff then launched a ball through the wall to lead Rebel 7-1.
After scoring the second at the bottom of the sixth table, Gonzalez doubled the lead, followed by an RBI single for Kemp Alderman to make it 8-1. Anthony Calarco walked, then Peyton Chatagnier scored Ole Miss 11-1 lead.
Rebel breaker Jordan Vera (1-1) won, throwing 2.1 innings with one turn earned after two hits with one attack. Starter JT Quinn went through three rounds with three hits and three hits. Mitch Murrell and Brayden Jones also saw time on the mound in this film.
Relief Peyton Niemann (0-1) conceded a goal for the UAPB, while Golden Lions starter Jacob Ehling went through four solid innings, allowing four hits, walk and strike.
Chatagnier led the Rebel attack with a night of 3 to 4 and three RBIs. Groff had two hits, three RBIs and two walks, while Gonzalez and Alderman each had two hits and two RBIs.
Ole Miss is back in action for the Southeast Conference with three games taking place in Oxford against Florida starting Friday at 6:30pm
