Earlier this week, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani testified that he was assaulted at a grocery store on Long Island while helping campaign for his son. He described the incident and said he felt a shot in the back that sent him forward, but he didn’t fall. However, the surveillance video shows an incident that is less dramatic than what Giuliani describes.
During his appearance on “The Daily Show,” the current New York City Mayor, Eric Adams, called for an investigation of Giuliani for reporting a false crime.
Adams told Trevor Noah,
“He falsely reported a crime, and the district attorney should take that seriously. The person he falsely declared was in jail for 24 hours, that’s unacceptable. I’m going to call DA, we have to be consistent, all the stages he’s done, that’s unacceptable. If that tape wasn’t there, imagine what would have happened to that man.”
While speaking about the situation, Mayor Adams mentioned Karen Central Park incidents involving Amy Cooper and Christian Cooper. If you all remember, in 2020, Christian was falsely accused of threatening Amy’s life after asking her to leash her dog.
Daniel Gill, a grocery store employee, was initially charged with second-degree assault. However, according to NBC News, court records show the charges were later reduced to misdemeanor assault with intent to cause injury. Records also show two additional misdemeanors, third-degree intimidation and second-degree harassment.
