MANILA, Philippines-San Miguel found the hole in the opposition defense low in extra time and used it to full effect to survive Blackwater, 110-107, in the Philippine Cup PBA at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Cornerstone June Mar Fajardo scored six of his 25 points in extra time, helping the Beermen extend their winning streak to five games and 8-1 on aggregate.
Jericho Cruz was also an integral part of the effort, matching the former Most Valuable Player’s result in the second straight game. CJ Perez chipped in at 23 while Mo Tautuaa 17 more as the club squeezed into first place.
“After watching their previous game, I knew it was going to be very difficult for us. We thought it was all over in the third half but Blackwater showed bravery,” said coach Leo Austria.
“Eight and one (8-1), I don’t know if this automatically puts us in the Top 2,” he continued. “I think we are in good form, but we will see.
Rashawn McCarthy finished with 22 points, while Rey Suerte 18 points more in an attempt to lose to Bossing that even Austria considered a laudable audience for the longtime whip boys, who slipped to 5 -2.
