“Phillies and Padres will most likely not be in the picture next month” “Some teams don’t need to participate”
More than seven weeks to go – 51 days to be exact – MLB The post-season picture is starting to take shape.
On Monday, the league announced its much-anticipated post-season schedule. The race for the World Series will begin on Friday, October 7.
Much of the regular season remains, but we’re starting to get an idea of which teams are likely to make that list.
Hypothetically, if the 2022 post-season MLB started today, what would the format of the tournament look like.
The new post-season format includes 12 teams (six teams from each league), up from 10 teams in the previous structure. Three division winners and three Wild Card teams for each tournament will form the quota.
MLB Twitter showcases a world of post-season possibilities
The first round of the MLB after the 2022 season will be one of the best three Wild Card series on both sides of the spectrum. Against that series will be the third place winner on either side (3rd seed) and three Wild Card teams.
The team with the best record of the Wild Card teams will be seeded 4. The team with the second best record will be seeded 5, and the team with the third best record will be seeded 6. The third seed will take over the sixth seed, while the fourth and fifth seed will match the other.
As things go in the American League, the AL . Center leaders Cleveland Defenders will usurp the tournament’s current best Wild Card record, Toronto Blue Jays.
The Seattle Mariners currently the fourth seed. Based on the hypothetical implications of our end-today season, they will face Tampa Bay Rays.
The winner of 3 vs. 6 (currently Guardians v Blue Jays) will face the current No. 2 seed, the New York Yankees. Given that the Yankees held the best MLB record not too long ago, the relegation shows just how far back they’ve come in recent weeks.
Awaiting the winner of 4th vs 6th (currently Mariners v Rays) will be the AL best record holder, the Houston Astros. The two ALDS winners will then qualify for the ALCS in a set of seven matches.
In terms of the National League, St. Louis Cardinals is currently 3rd, and waiting for them is the 6th San Diego Padres. Current 4th seed Atlanta Braves and 5th seed Philadelphia Phillies will finish the Wild Card group stage.
The winner of 3 vs 6 (currently the Cardinals v Padres) will face the 2nd seed, the New York Mets. Due to the Mets’ 13-1 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Braves last night, some fans couldn’t resist getting a cheap shot.
This season’s MLB standard team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, will win at #4 versus #5 (currently Braves v Phillies). The two NLDS winners will then claim the NLCS crown.
The ALDS and NLDS winners will lock horns to determine the 2022 World Series champion. The set of seven matches will begin on October 28 and end on November 5, making it a post-season match. latest in MLB history.
However, there is still a lot to play between now and October 7. This hypothetical framework reflects how things might stand, but is by no means definitive.
Things can change very quickly, especially on the Wild Card front. What we do know for sure is that we’re in for a nerve-wracking but exciting end, possibly one for ages.
