Rising Athletes Corey Phelan suffered sadly in the battle against cancer.
The Phillies minor pitcher was diagnosed back in April of this year with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma After doctors found a 9-inch-long mass in his chest. Now, after a battle that lasted 6 months, he tragically passed away at the age of 20. His team announced the news on Thursday in a heartbreaking statement:
“The Phillies family is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Corey Phelan. Corey’s positive and selfless presence influenced everyone around him. While he was extremely passionate about the game of baseball, his love for his family and strong faith superseded everything else. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, as well as to his teammates and staff, who have stood by his side and provided moral support throughout his brave battle with the United States. cancer”.

This young athlete was selected as a free agent by the team in 2020 when he had just graduated from high school. Player Development Manager Preston Mattingly explained in a statement of its own:
“Corey was and always will be someone special. His smile lights up a room and everyone who comes in contact with him appreciates the interaction. His memory will live on, especially with the Phillies. “

The star received chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and can visit the team while they play Mets In Citi Stadium back in May, which he described at the time as “one of the best nights ever”, adding:
“The entire Phillies organization is nothing short of amazing for me and my family.”
