Pixar’s Pete Docter Receives Honorary Membership Of The Visual Effects Association – The Hollywood Reporter

The Visual Effects Association has announced its newest honorary and lifetime members as well as this year’s VES Founders Award recipients, all of which will be recognized during a special event in October. .

Educator and veterinarian Pam Hogarth will be presented with the VES Founders Award at the event. Pixar Creative Director Pete Docter – Oscar-winning director of Top, inside out and Soul – will receive honorary VES memberships and Jeff Barnes, Patricia “Rose” Duignan, Toni Pace Carstensen, David Tanaka and Hogarth will receive lifetime VES memberships for service to the Association and the industry.

Hogarth is recognized for her contributions to VFX and service to the Association. She has filled roles ranging from marketing to industry relations and has devoted most of her career to education. She runs the Digital Media Institute in Hollywood, helps develop digital programming at AFI and has taught at the Art Director Guild, Otis College, Gnomon and AFI. She served eight terms on the VES board, twice as vice president.

The previous VES president was Barnes, who is currently the executive director of creative development at Light Field Lab, co-founding and leading companies including CaféFX, The Syndicate and Sententia Entertainment.

Carstensen was the founding treasurer of VES and co-editor of the first edition of the VES Handbook of Visual Effects. Her feature credits include VFX producer/digital production director on Avatar.

Duignan has spent more than a decade at ILM, during which time she started the ILM Nursery Center. She continues to play a role in empowering women, people of color, and veterans in VFX through the VES Education Committee.

VFX editor, producer and creative director Tanaka works at Tippett Studio and is an adjunct professor for the University Academy of Arts. He served as president of the VES Bay Area division and was the 2nd vice president on the board.
