Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal will chair a reconvened trade council meeting on Tuesday to discuss ways to boost the country’s manufacturing and exports.

The meeting took place before the government was able to make an announcement Foreign Trade Policy at the end of this month and the country’s merchandise exports fell 1.15% in August – the first decline since November 2020.

The panel includes participants from the states, union territories and senior officials from the public and private sectors and provides a platform to discuss ways to promote manufacturing and exports. .

“The meeting aims to seek input from members to help us formulate policies for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and reach $1 trillion each in goods and services exported by 2030 and improve the export competitiveness of the states,” an official said.

In July, the government nominated 29 unofficial members including Tata consulting services CEO and CEO Rajesh Gopinathan, Electronics and Mobile Association of India President Pankaj Mahindroo and Amul MD RS Sodhi. This is the first meeting of the reconstruction council.

The industry that is likely to give rise to the problem Goods and services tax refunds, reducing the compliance burden on small exporters, and ways to finance MSMEs to increase exports. The sources said the development of districts as export hubs and discussion of ways to facilitate e-commerce exports through foreign trade policy could also come up at Tuesday’s meeting.
