Australia and Sri Lanka are set to lock their whistles in the first match of a two-match test series, which kicks off Wednesday, June 29 at Galle International Stadium.
Sri Lanka, led by Dimuth Karunaratne, will be confident after winning the ODI series with a score of 3-2. They have decided the fate of this series after winning three matches on the road following their first two-goal defeat in the opening game.
However, Test cricket is a completely different ball game. Back in January, Australia won the Ashes 4-0 then they beat Pakistan 1-0 away.
Pat Cummins has done an excellent job since taking over from Tim Paine last year before Ashes began. Usman Khawaja has also been in excellent form since returning in The Ashes.
Sri Lanka will enter the series after winning in Bangladesh a month ago. Angelo Mathews is the star of the show after he scored 199 on the Chattogram test.
The island nation has quite a few quality spinners in their ranks and tackling them may not be a walk in the park for Australian hitters.
Vishwa Fernando has recently recovered from a concussion and will most likely share the position of speed attack with either Kasun Rajitha or Asitha Fernando.
