MANILA, Philippines – Cza Carandang will receive a new pair of boots from Mylene Paat after she helped their captain lead Chery Tiggo to a second straight win in the 2022 Premier League Volleyball League Reinforcement Conference.

Paat and Carandang have joined hands to lead Crossover ’25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 victory over Cignal HD Spikers for a 2-0 early tournament lead on Saturday at Philsports Arena.

After keeping their team unbeaten, Paat told reporters that Carandang would have a new pair of sneakers from her. Before the game, the mid laner tried on the captain’s shoe and it fit her well.

Paat told her younger teammates: “You can have a new pair of shoes if we win.”

The Far Eastern University product passed Paat’s test and yielded 14 points based on 12 attacks, an ace, and a block.

But more than getting a new pair of shoes, Carandang’s mind is on helping the team as they work their way up from 8th place in a row in the first two games.

“I really want to help my wingers. My mindset is to play as a decoy, grab the attention of the opponent’s tacklers, so my managers won’t have a hard time because of these Reinforced taller teams,” said Carandang at Philippines. “I also don’t expect the trust of our setters to have helped with a good strike rate.”

Carandang and Paat were full of energy celebrating every point they scored.

“It was natural for us. Me and Ate My really tease each other every time we score,” she said.

Chery Tiggo coach Clarence Esteban praised the tacklers’ on-field antics as they helped ease the pressure of the game.

“It’s good for them to enjoy the game and celebrate every point because it eases the tension inside the pitch. Even me, I tease my players like Alina (Bicar) and Buding (Duremdes),” said Esteban.

It’s commendable for Carandang to give her team a head start at this season’s end conference and get herself new sneakers.
