PVL: Mylene Paat at the forefront of Crossover’s rise

MANILA, Philippines – In a tournament that requires many imports, Mylene Paat has emerged as one of the top players to date as she is determined to help Chery Tiggo rise again in the Football League Strengthening Conference English Premier League pass in 2022.
Paat scored 19 points, including big hits in the fourth set, when Chery Tiggo took a 2-0 lead after beating Cignal, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
The mainstay of the Philippine women’s volleyball team is the constant factor of the Crossovers, averaging 17.5 points in their first two wins.
She is currently the league’s top scorer with a 47.95% strike rate and the top scorer with a total of 35 points, along with F2 Logistics’ Kalei Mau being the two behind PLDT import Elena Samoilenko, Choco Mucho’s Odina Aliyeva, Akari’s Prisilla Rivera, and Cignal’s Tai Bierria.
Paat is just eager to lift her team after finishing eighth in a row in the first two games.
“Siyempre naguumpisa kami ulit na bumangon. Kumbaga step by step, parang pangalawang baitang ‘to na trangsubok na dumating sa amin so na-passing namin. Sobrang would like to thank ako kasi yun na nga, luckily bagay yung won namin nayon for the second time,” said the Crossovers captain.

From being the first professional PVL champion in 2021, Chery Tiggo has fallen as a champion in the past two tournaments.
But this season’s closing conference, Paat is seeing their younger teammates play hard and work hard, which adds momentum to her and the other holders.
“Everybody is determined to play their best. And our young teammates are very hardworking. It gives us veterans an extra boost when we see them step up and give. That’s why everyone does their best,” she said in Filipino after Czarina Carandang and EJ Laure also stepped up
It was a good start for Paat and Crossover but they have no plans to slow down, still hungry for more wins to achieve their goal of taking the top spot once again at this event.
“As the coach (Clarence Esteban) told us, we will focus on whoever we face. We will play one game at a time,” said Paat.
Chery Tiggo opened fire for a third win over Akari on Thursday at the same venue in Pasig City.
