Resident says noisy trucks at Amazon facility disrupted her entire life – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE – A western Charlotte woman who lives near the Amazon CLT9 Placement Center said the company has been a noisy neighbor for many years.

“When they start at 11 p.m., they don’t stop,” says Joann Johnston.

Johnson has lived in this home with his 88-year-old mother for nearly 50 years, but over the past few years, life couldn’t be more peaceful.

Johnson started recording on his cell phone a few years ago hoping to catch the noise from Amazon trucks coming and going.

“It’s terrible!” she speaks. “A few nights, it wasn’t so bad. Some nights, it’s just horrible. You cannot sleep. There’s no way you can sleep.”

There have been more than a dozen noise complaints since 2019, and in that time, Johnson said Amazon has promised to build a noise wall.

“I got in trouble because I actually bought a bull from them and I used it,” Johnson said. “I’m like, ‘Hey guys. We are here. ‘ And then they came here and told me I broke the law.”

Ironically, they told Johnson she was breaking the law by making too much noise.

“We take all customer complaints seriously and we always strive to be a great neighbor,” said Branden Baribeau, an Amazon spokesperson. “We have reached out to Ms Johnson directly to address her concerns and are actively working to find a timely resolution.”

Johnson said her life has been disrupted.

“It breaks my heart to know that they could do something like that and ignore it,” Johnson said.

Johnson said she couldn’t move because her mother wanted to stay in her home for the rest of her life.
