Saskatchewan Stabbing Rampage Suspect Myles Sanderson Arrested by Canadian Police

Myles Sandersonone of the two is suspected a stabbing rage across a Canadian province that left 10 dead and 18 injured, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to the Saskatchewan RCMP.

After four days of frantic manhunt, Sanderson, 32, was arrested near Rosthern, Saskatchewan, the Canadian police force said. The arrest came hours after the RCMP issued an emergency alert regarding a dangerous person traveling in a stolen vehicle through town 27 miles west of Rosthern. The person was armed with a knife, according to the warning.

An unnamed official told washington articles which Sanderson turned himself in after the police crashed his car. He faces three counts of first-degree murder, as well as attempted murder and breaking and entering.

Parole records obtained by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation The day after the stabbing revealed Sanderson’s violent criminal past. His extensive rap has a total of 59 previous convictions, including for assaulting a police officer; beat a man to unconsciousness; and stabbed two others with a fork. He had a lifetime firearms ban due to his record.

Sanderson’s brother, Damien Sanderson, 31, was found dead on Monday not far from where he was stabbed. It remains unclear how he died on Wednesday night, but police said his stab wounds did not appear to have been self-inflicted.

The names of the violent stabbing victims were released earlier on Wednesday. They ranged in age from 23 to 78, and all but one were from the James Smith Cree Nation Indigenous community.

“There was a real sense of relief,” a 22-year-old woman whose grandmother was killed in the attack told New York Times on Wednesday. “Many people will sleep better tonight.”
