Sheikh Hasina lauds PM Modi for evacuating Bangladeshi students from Ukraine, calls India ‘tested friend’

DHAKA (BANGLADESH): Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina praises Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the initiative towards the rescue of her country’s students who were stranded in Eastern Europe following the outbreak of The Russian-Ukrainian Conflict.
In a free televised interaction with ANI, prime minister Hasina, who will visit India on Monday, also praised the Modi government’s move in providing Vaccines against covid-19 to neighboring countries under its authority Maitri . vaccine program when the pandemic spreads rapidly.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh emphasized closer cooperation between the two neighboring countries. There may be differences but these need to be resolved through dialogue, she added, adding that in some areas, India and Bangladesh have done exactly that.
However, she singled out two areas for special praise where the Indian government’s support has helped Bangladeshi citizens. One of these is evacuation of Bangladeshi studentswho, like many Indians, were stranded in Ukraine and neighboring countries after the outbreak of conflict.
“I really want to thank the Prime Minister that during the war between Russia and Ukraine, many of our students were trapped and they went to Poland for shelter. But when you evacuate your students from You, Indian students, they also bring our students back home.So it’s really… You guys showed a clear friendly gesture.I thank the Prime Minister for the morning. this ant,” Hasina said.
She was responding to a question about a comment often made by Western observers in particular that there is a lack of cooperation among SAARC countries. For another question about the Indian government Maitri vaccine Hasina said it was a very “prudential” initiative taken by Prime Minister Modi.
“I really thank Prime Minister Modi for this initiative, and in that way he… you know, contributed the vaccine to not only Bangladesh, several South Asian countries and it really does. And it’s a really prudent initiative that he’s taken, and besides, we buy vaccines with our own money, and many other countries also contribute,” Hasina speak.
Hasina also details her country’s vaccination program. Bangladesh has given the Covid-19 vaccine to 90% of the population. “Usually, you know, people in our country, especially at the village level, even in some towns, I see a lot of people are very afraid to take vaccines. They don’t want to take … you you know… needles or ‘sui nai lena hai’… but we have to go after them. We told them this is nothing but it will save your life. That’s where we interacted with everyone, let them do it for everyone… so it’s really a very good initiative, this Maitri Vaccine itself… very good. I really support it. household,” she said.
Hasina considers India a “tested” friend and says that country stood by Bangladesh in a time of need, first in 1971 and then in times after.
“We keep their contributions in mind throughout the process The War of 1971. And besides, even in 1975, when we lost all my family members. So the Prime Minister at that time, she gave us shelter in India. Besides, you see, our two countries are neighbors, close neighbors, and I always value and prioritize friendly relations with neighboring countries,” she said.
The relationship between the two countries should be for their citizens, she said.
Hasina said that even in the time of Covid-19, the Indian leadership showed their positive intentions as both then-President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh when the country was Celebrate Independence Day.
“I really thank Prime Minister Modi and also your honorary president. Both of you visited Bangladesh as we celebrated the 100th anniversary of our national birth and also our independence day, 50 Independence Day and our friendship with India India recognized Bangladesh early on that link, I think that was our main priority. That their visit at such a time, even Even at that time there was Pandemic caused by covid-19 but besides that they both honor us, honor our people,” she said.
