Sheryl Lee Ralph makes Emmys history with Abbott elementary school win – The Hollywood Reporter

The Abbott Elementary School nominated actress alongside Alex Borstein (Miraculous Mrs. Maisel), Hannah Einbinder (Hacks), co-star Janelle James (Abbott Elementary School), Kate McKinnon (Saturday night live), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Juno Shrine (Ted Lasso) and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).

As she stepped onto the stage, an emotional Ralph began to sing a line from Dianne Reeves’ song “Endangered Species” as the audience gave her a standing ovation.

Ralph continued, “For anyone who has ever had a dream and thinks your dream won’t, won’t, can’t come true, I’m here to tell you that this is what you want. trust – this is what stands out like. And never, never give up on you, because if you have a Quinta Brunson in your corner, if you have a husband like me in your corner, if you have kids like me in my corner , and if you have friends like everyone who voted for me, cheered for me, loved me, thanks, thanks, thanks! ”

With the win, which marks Ralph’s first Emmy, the actress is now the second Black woman in history to win in the category. “Winning my Emmy was a highlight of my career, but it was also a lonely experience,” said Harry wrote on Twitter after Ralph’s Emmy moment. “In 35 years, I am the only black woman to win Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. But that all changed tonight… and it became a full circle! #Emmys. “

Prior to the ceremony, the Television Academy gave the nominees the opportunity to organize their thoughts and gratitude before taking to the stage so that the winners had the opportunity to “speak from the heart and not be emotional.” feel pressured to remember to say all the important names when you stand out with your acceptance speech. ”

Ralph said CHEAP that her strategy was to thank the supporters behind the scenes who made the show happen: “I just wanted to make sure I thanked everyone at ABC, thanks everyone at Warner Bros. and thank you to everyone at Disney. It’s easy to forget the supporters of this show without being seen literally. ”

The 2022 Emmys airs live on Mondays from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on NBC and Peacock. Kenan Thompson hosts the show.
