I know I’m late to the game here (Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand launched in 2019), but until recently, I hadn’t tried SKIMS’ coveted line of bodysuits. Last year, I fell in love SKIMS’ cotton and seamless basics, including jumpsuits and underwear, so when I was looking for some form-fitting tops to wear under my wedding dress last month, I thought I would too. maybe try SKIMS.
To make sure I had all of my bases in place for the big day, I decided to try out three of SKIMS’ best-selling silhouettes: Waist trainerthe Amazing Sculpt Low Back Shortand Short sculpture above the knee with open feet. I also sold almost always sold out Soft lounge slip dress, not a shapewear, but I couldn’t recommend it more — it looks great on everyone. Full disclosure: sadly the package didn’t arrive in time for my wedding (thanks a lot, Memorial Day weekend delay!), but yes, I survived the big day herself without them and experimented with post-wedding shapewear with lots of summer bodycon dresses.
What I love about SKIMS is that they make it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for (in terms of support and control) while shopping online. The day before my wedding trip, I was struggling to find a replacement fixative to replace my delayed SKIMS package, and it was hard to find exactly what I was looking for without having to… take the clothes out of their box.
Since my goal was to flatten and contour my legs and belly to better fit my classic (and slightly too small) wedding dress, I opted for shapewear style offers “strong support”, which I gather is just a better way to say “strong charisma”. Back in that day, I miss that while my OG Spanx shorts are solid do While providing a noticeable slimming effect on my midsection, they will also cut off my circulation completely—a sacrifice I don’t normally make. But the three Skims I’ve tried get and contour my figure without being constrained and uncomfortable — which I didn’t think was possible.
I realize that it’s not just Kim Kardashian and SKIMS that are subject to their fair share of criticism (i.e. accusations of cultural appropriation and the controversies over the pregnancy shaping boot) but like the whole bodybuilding, argues that it’s falling into a case against body positivity. Honestly, sometimes I just want to feel small a little more confident in a flimsy dress — and why do I feel so bad about it? If you’re looking for top quality shapewear with lots of options that help do what it promises without cutting off your circulation, then I couldn’t recommend the SKIMS line more.
