Sky Mavis partnered with Google Cloud to be the validator for its blockchain gaming network and enable it to scale securely and sustainably.

Sky Mavis operates the popular Axie Infinity game, which uses non-fungible tokens to authenticate unique digital items.

Back in March, Sky Mavis reported that the Ronin Network supporting Axie Infinity has been hacked. Thieves stole 173,600 Ethereum cryptocurrencies (worth $594.6 million) and $25.5 million, stealing a total of $620 million.

Now, at the AxieCon event in Barcelona, Sy Mavis says it will be working with Google Cloud over the years to strengthen Ronin’s security and advance its vision of building a gaming universe with the best in the world. relevant, immersive and rewarding experience.

Google Cloud will become a standalone enterprise validator for the Ronin network, joining a validator node group that includes Animoca Brands, DappRadar, Nansen, etc. By running and monitoring a validator node on the Ronin network, Google Cloud will contribute to its overall security and governance, and take on the role of validator uptime monitoring.

Ronin is a blockchain network built using the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) launched by Sky Mavis in February 2021 to speed up transactions and significantly reduce gas fees for its rapidly growing user ecosystem. , thus allowing millions of in-game microtransactions to happen seamlessly.

It works on a Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus model, where validators are selected based on their trustworthiness and are responsible for verifying, voting, and maintaining a record of transactions on the blockchain. . As part of Sky Mavis’ shift towards decentralization, it proposes new validators and puts them up to vote. Then the current network requires at least 70% of its existing validators to approve a proposal.

Previously, Sky Mavis set up a temporary backdoor to handle more transactions. Sky Mavis accidentally left that backdoor, and hackers used it to steal crypto and cash.

“Valifiers have the important job of ensuring that transactions on Ronin are processed correctly. They also act as key ecosystem partners and custodians,” Aleksander Larsen, COO of Sky Mavis, said in a statement. “Google Cloud, a company that serves as a recognized contributor to the developer community and has deep technical expertise in blockchain infrastructure and running validators, is naturally one of the top choices. head. Google Cloud has been our strategic cloud provider since 2020, so welcoming them now as Ronin’s 18th and newest validator is a big deal for us, especially as we work towards our original goal of having 21 independent validators protecting the network. “

By building core services like Ronin, the exclusive Axie Infinity title, and Mavis Hub – the launchpad for new blockchain games – on top of Google Cloud’s scalable, secure and sustainable infrastructure and low latency network, Sky Mavis aims to set Ronin as default NFT Scaling Solution for games and open up more opportunities for users to turn their time and effort into value in the real world. This means that third-party game developers can register with Sky Mavis to publish their games.

With Sky Mavis actively providing resources and support to help its community developers create and monetize immersive experiences on Axie Infinity and Ronin, Google Cloud will enable scalable distribution community-built games and other experiences created through Sky Mavis’ partnership with the big game studio. Given that Ronin transactions have been designed to be more energy efficient than transactions on the Proof of Stake blockchain, Sky Mavis’ decision to run its platforms on the industry’s cleanest cloud will reduce its environmental impact. the overall environment of the ecosystem further, the company said.

Sky Mavis has also chosen Google Cloud for its content delivery network’s advanced caching and load balancing features, to deliver a smooth and reliable experience for users anywhere on any device – including including those who earn income through Axie Infinity but live in rural areas with intermittent online connectivity.

“From the time we joined the Google Cloud for Startups Program to this day, Google Cloud and its partner Searce have provided us with the right support at every stage of our development journey. Our development – whether it’s handling traffic fluctuating to 2.3 million Axie NFT owners Trung Nguyen, Sky Mavis CEO, said. “We are very much looking forward to our next phase of partnership with Google Cloud and Searce, especially given their clear commitment to our industry and their desire to support us and the wider community. with the right capabilities for Web3-born applications.”

Sky Mavis aims to hire 100 more people over the next 18 months. To continue to attract world-class talent and allow the team of engineers focused in Vietnam to easily connect, create, and collaborate with their colleagues around the world, Sky Mavis used Google Workspace.

Built on Google Cloud, Google Workspace brings together apps like Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat and more, into a single, integrated workspace enterprise-class access management, device management, data protection, and data encryption built-in, to establish a secure hybrid work environment.

Tripled the size of its global team over the past year to accelerate product roadmaps and support the growing number of games and user-generated content in its ecosystem, Sky Mavis is also enabling its engineers to maximize their talents and make meaningful contributions to the user community.

“After comparing all options, we chose Google Cloud due to several core differentiating factors,” Viet Anh Ho, CTO of Sky Mavis, said in a statement. “One area in particular is the open source legacy of Google Cloud and managed Kubernetes services. The engineers at Google actually invented Kubernetes, so it’s only natural that Google Cloud has the best automated decentralization and application deployment capabilities. These free up our engineers to create new platforms and delight users with immersive and interactive experiences – all without interrupting active gameplay. Furthermore, the Google Cloud services we are using have been field tested on Google products such as Search and YouTube. “

From the introduction of the new battle system, balance changes and seasonal leaderboards to the opening of the Axie NFT trading market and the launch of co-created blockchain games on Mavis Hub – this is one of hundreds. Developmental updates that Sky Mavis are releasing regularly. At the same time, the company must ensure that it is synchronizing game states in real time during multiplayer sessions and matching players with similar skill levels. By automating application deployment and game server orchestration – with no downtime – using Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), their engineering teams can avoid manual backend configurations and focus on building compelling features and products.

“Sky Mavis is a prime example of how the cloud can enable blockchain technologies to drive innovation and create value for individuals,” said Ruma Balasubramanian, Southeast Asia managing director at Google Cloud, said in a statement. “With Searce as our implementation partner, we look forward to working with Sky Mavis to accelerate the product roadmap and grow the Ronin network with secure infrastructure at its core. We’re also excited about the possibilities that could emerge from this latest collaboration – be it an exciting user experience or a new business model in game distribution. “
