Skyrim Mod offers 16K dragon textures for inevitable 2050 release
Skyrim has received countless versions and upgrades, but this new PC mod seems to be the future proof of the game for the next few years. A 16K texture mod uploaded by Nexus Mods user xilamonstr ensure that players can see every scale and scar on the game’s dragons.
While this may seem overwhelming, this page offers a decent explanation of why 16k can be a useful addition in a time when most games are still sticking to 1440p. Basically, the dragons in Skyrim are larger than any other enemies in the game, meaning their skins are stretched much longer than normal enemies.
“I recommend treating these as two 8K files side by side,” xilamonstrr said in the post. “With 16K, the dragon wings are 7380 x 4020 pixels, the head is 3320 x 2480 pixels and the whole body and rear legs are just 6080 x 4580 pixels. If you are fighting a dragon up close and want to see it’s in 4K resolution, then you need the dragon at 16K.”
The post also has some screenshots (above) from the updated dragons that look pretty good, so players with high end PCs might want to take a closer look. this mod to their collection if they’re still roaming around Skyrim more than a decade after it was released.
Of course, there is no alternative as Elder Scrolls VI may still be many years away. Last year, director Todd Howard revealed that Bethesda’s new space RPG Starfield has taken precedence over Skyrim sequel and this is was recently delayed until next year also.
