Solange Knowles shares her excitement at becoming the first woman of color to compose music for the New York City Ballet
Now we know the Knowles family is no stranger when it comes to breaking down barriers, and Solange Knowles It’s no different when she adds another achievement to her resume.
On Tuesday, Solange shared her excitement as she celebrated her achievement of composing an original score for the New York City Ballet. She shared that the show, which can be viewed at Lincoln Center, will be shown in October, as well as in May next year.
Based on NBC News, Solo’s composition, for the Fall Fashion Gala, making her the first Black woman to compose music for the production. The production, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary, will also pay tribute to actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who takes on the role of vice president of the ballet.
Solange’s mother, Tina Lawson, also shared how proud she is of her youngest daughter, saying:
“She was always knocking down doors and opening doors for other Black artists! Performing Arts activities at the most prestigious Museums such as The Guggenheim, Moca, The Getty, Venice Bienalle and The Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Germany. Prestigious Chinati organization during the Marfa Texas Arts Festival. Some installations in museums in Europe. Now she has written and composed the most beautiful musical for the New York Ballet. “
