Sony may be working on a PlayStation PC game launcher

Sony may be developing its own PC game launcher like Steam and Epic Games Store to use with the range PlayStation PC re-release.

According to the report of VGC, the files for the PC version of Spider-Man Remastered include references to the “PlayStation PC launcher”. While game files often refer to scrapped content, like a potential multiplayer mode in Spider-Manit at least shows that having a standalone PC launcher is an idea floating around at Sony.

Other files also reference “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements” although Sony has not provided any connection between the user’s PlayStation Network account and their PlayStation Studios PC game to date.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed, but Sony has made a significant investment in PC publishing recently by set up a new PlayStation PC label and buy expert porting PC Nixxes. Sony also recently said that, besides investing in first-party software, its other main strategy for business growth is releasing its software on multiple platforms – and it is expected to make $300 million from PC games this financial year alone.

So far, only a handful of PlayStation Studios games are available on PC, notably 2018’s God of War but also with Spider-Man Remastered, Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone. Spider-Man Miles Morales is expected to be released on the platform However, at the end of this year, along with arguably PlayStation’s biggest franchise In Collection Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves.
