Southern remakes in Bollywood fail
Popular films in this region have a high recall value, which Bollywood producers love to capitalize on, but there also seems to be a shift in viewer expectations. It has been noted that instead of tried-and-true remakes, the public today prefers something new and exciting. However, all things considered, some Bollywood remakes like Wanted, Hera Pheri and Singham are among the biggest hits of performers with huge star power like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, and these films are still warmly watched on OTT.
Pushpa: The Rise, starring Allu Arjun, premiered in theaters in December 2021 and quickly enjoyed a resounding success in Hindi markets worldwide. The Northern Belt was quickly rocked by a series of Hindi remakes of Southern films. With the exception of Drshyam 2, many remakes failed to achieve the success of the original Southern films. Several producers from Hindi film business have purchased the rights to popular movies produced in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema industry throughout the years.
