HATTIESBURG – In the second game in a row, the Mississippi State football program scored two goals in the second half to lead Miss South (0-4), 2-0. The fifth win of the season helps State maintain an unbeaten streak after the first seven games of the year.

Head coach James Armstrong said: “It was great to get a win against a quality opponent. “We [as a staff] proud of our defensive effort tonight and the number of chances we were able to create. Both goals are quality shots. We look forward to returning to work tomorrow. “

For the fourth match in a row, Bang entered the game with a score of 0 against the opponent. Three of MSU’s five first-half shots were on target. However, the Bulldogs will use the second half to their advantage, scoring twice against the Golden Eagles seven minutes apart. The two goals in the second half marked the third time in the last four games that Bang had scored in the second half of the game.

In the 54th minute, freshman Maggie Wadsworth put State ahead with an assist from sophomore Haley McWhirter. The goal is now the third goal of Wadsworth’s career and also the third of her career. Seven minutes later, McWhirter scored her third career goal as a Bulldog, her second in as many games. The first support of Junior Elle McCaslin’s career in the play will be the State insurance needed to ensure victory.

Bang improved to 5-0-2 to stay unbeaten in non-conference games. The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, September 11, when they return home for a competition with Presbyterian College (0-4-2). The final, non-conference game of the season will begin at 1 p.m. CT.
