Ahead of Sunday’s MTV VMAs in Newark, New Jersey, Taylor Swift is back in nearby New York City. The singer was pictured with her boyfriend of five years Joe Alwyn and longtime friend Lena Dunham, having dinner at the private members club Casa Cipriani. Swift wears a chic floral v-neck dress and looks like Daily mail pointed out, there is no engagement ring on her left ring finger despite months of tabloid rumors. Alwyn did it clear in interviews this spring where he won’t tell anyone if they’re really engaged. He said WSJ in April, “If I had a pound for every time I thought I was being told I was engaged, I would have a lot of pounds,” he said. “I mean, the truth is, if the answer is yes, I won’t, and if the answer is no, I won’t.”
Sun most recently announced that Swift and Alwyn were secretly engaged at the end of June. A source “close to Joe” told the magazine, “Taylor and Joe are so happy and very, very much in love. They’ve actually been engaged for a few months but have only told their inner circle — basically immediate family and very trusted old friends. Everyone was also sworn to secrecy. Taylor has a beautiful ring, but she only wears it when she’s at home – behind closed doors. Again, only a handful of people know the details of the wedding, and Taylor hasn’t even told some of her team about the engagement. They want their love to be as far away from the camera as possible. This is just for them. And if and when they exchange vows, there certainly won’t be any Vogue, Rolling Stone or Hi! magazine there. It will be simple and elegant — just like them. “
Swift is then photographed in London with Alwyn in July, apparently not wearing a ring on her finger. Call it their very subtle response to the rumor mill.
