Teenager dies after being hit by train in St. Louis

Police identified the victim Monday as 17-year-old Caleb Balaban from St. Clair, Missouri.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Police of St. Louis is investigating after a teenage boy was hit and killed by an Amtrak train on Sunday night.

It happened on the 1400th block of Kiefer Creek Road in Castlewood State Park.

At around 4 p.m., officers from West Precinct County respond to a call for help about a railroad accident with an injured person. They found the boy lying on the ground. He is presumed dead at the scene.

On Monday, St. Louis identified the victim as 17-year-old Caleb Balaban from St. Clair, Missouri.

According to an Amtrak spokesperson, the Amtrak train was traveling from Chicago to Kansas City, Missouri when the victim, who was trespassing, came into contact with the train.

The train had 123 passengers and crew on board at the time and there were no injuries, according to the statement.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.

Amtrak is working with local law enforcement in their investigation.

Police said they will provide more information as it becomes available.
