Telehealth Connect2MyDoctor Platform Launches AR . Patient Education Module
Connect2MyDoctor, a telehealth platform from Melbourne-based medical technology startup Neev Tech Labs, has launched a new augmented reality/hologram module for patient education.
The telehealth platform, which also operates in Bengaluru, India and Dubai, has been used by patients in more than 15 countries and accessed by more than 3,000 professionals since its launch in 2016.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
A web and mobile app-enabled module called cARe allows specialists to easily explain anatomical structures and physiological mechanisms to patients through integrated AR.
The AR module has a list of 3D models for the doctor to choose from during the online consultation. One of its key features is the ability to highlight and annotate models to enable deeper understanding of medical processes. It also has zoom and pan functions. According to a press statement, custom interactions can be designed and integrated as required.
Available as a standalone component, hospitals can integrate the module with their existing systems but Connect2MyDoctor says it’s best used with their integration platform.
Besides patient education, the cARe module can also be used for Continuous Professional Development and by the Virtual Tumor Council and medical colleges. It can also be integrated and used for outpatient and virtual care.
WHY IT IMPORTANT
Connect2MyDoctor claims its AR module can add value not only to medical education but also to the understanding of complex surgical procedures and a better understanding of human anatomy. Clinicians can use it during the pre-operative procedure to help patients and their families understand the medical procedure.
The integration of augmented reality into telemedicine, the startup claims, also has the potential to transform the way doctors make diagnoses and recommend treatment.
Furthermore, medical students will no longer have the need for a real patient’s body to practice procedures due to the availability of 3D/AR technology.
