QUEENS, New York (WABC) – A man fed up with a burst pipe has been spewing hot steam continuously into his Queens apartment since Saturday.
A spa steam room can be a luxury, but when hot steam covers your entire apartment day in and day out, it’s a nightmare.
“At first I thought it was a fire. I ran around looking. And I ran into the kitchen. There was nothing on it. Then I saw all this steam rising up and covering the whole room and my bedroom,” tenant Rondu Allah. speak.
Allah says that he woke up with strong steam on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday mornings.
He has asthma and is worried about the air he is breathing.
On Tuesday, Allah covered his furniture with plastic and moved them away from the hearth.
He was promised that a plumber would finally arrive on Wednesday to fix the pipe under his floor.
“If they had to chop down this floor, where would I move all my stuff?” Allah said.
Worse still, the 68-year-old tenant said it wasn’t just steam coming out of the broken pipe.
“The steam has been off since this morning but the air is still heavy and wet and the floor is still warm to the touch,” he said.
Allah pays $1,700 a month for his one bedroom on Lefferts Blvd in Queens.
He has lived there for over a decade and says this happened a few years ago.
They then tore down his floor and are said to have fixed the problem.
Except for you here, living in a hot tub.
Allah said: “Super product broke this TV. They said they will have a new one”.
He called super and the fire department.
Each time, they turn off the heat but when the temperature drops below 55, it turns right back on.
The management company assured Eyewitness News that help will arrive in the morning.
