The 13-year-old artist turns her passion into a full-fledged business


Remember what you did when you were 13 years old. For many of us – 13 means friends, video games, maybe a little shopping.

For Emily Pisano – 13 years old means honing her skills, promoting her business and developing her art.

Emily explains: “When I first started making art, it started out like drawing and painting on canvas.

Traditional art transforms into more creative works.

Emily started collecting pieces of wood to paint.. then ventured into crafting jewelry.

Her most popular works include acrylic paint being splashed onto canvas, then using a hair dryer as a brush.

She said: “It looks really eye-catching and it blends in and looks like tie dye.

Her most unique creations at the moment are bowls made from torn magazine pages and tightly rolled into different shapes and sizes.

“I can see my evolution, I guess,” said Emily with a laugh.

The lake, just a block from their home, offers countless hours of inspiration – especially the sunsets.

Father Matt said: “Ever since she was a little girl, we’ve seen her creative side.

It’s not just creativity that keeps Emily busy.

The 13-year-old girl sells her wares at local markets – most recently Vermillion’s Market in the Park.

Matt said she’s taking the lessons she’s learning “there’s nothing a class can give you… She’s got the business part of it, and she’s learning how to make some money.” with his passion and hobby”.

For Molly’s mother, literally everything changed.

“It was neat to see my little shopper friend and now she is on the other side of the stall selling her merchandise.”

With her parents’ full support, including letting her take over the family as her art expands, Emily’s art is now a business.

The reactions to it only inspired her to continue and grow.

“I like it all being different and the way I come up with my own ideas, that’s my own inspiration,” says Emily.
