HOXIE, Ark. (KAIT) – The Hoxie School District and the community came together to help a school employee who lost everything in a house fire.
On Friday morning, September 16, Dean of Students Randy Puckett received a call that no one wanted to take.
“I left the house at 6:40, went to school here, got on the bus, just took off, when I received a notice on the bus route that my house was on fire. I finished my bus route, then went home,” he said.
Randy explained that when he arrived at the scene of the house fire, he knew it would be a significant loss.
“They pretty much put out the fire, but half of the house was definitely burned down, and I don’t know what the other half looked like,” he recalls.
When Randy discovered his home was about to be completely lost, the community jumped in, ready to help.
The Dean has served in various roles at Hoxie for 12 years, but he has spent nearly 30 years as an educator.
GoFundMe has been set up of Randy’s daughter-in-law, Kim James Puckett, for $4,000 and is now close to achieving that goal.
However, that’s not the only thing the community has done to benefit Mr. Puckett.
“Buckets for Puckett” is a volleyball serving contest held on Thursday, September 22 before a senior volleyball game, with all proceeds going to help Randy recover his health. “
Kim said that as a family, they are speechless at all the help they have received.
“Whether you have him as a basketball coach in previous years or as a teacher, for those students to come back and show his love so much, the support I know has been a blessing. great luck for him,” she said.
Kim added that the situation could get much worse than it did, but she knows someone is watching Randy and has a plan.
“We just want to thank God for protecting Randy. We definitely want to say thank you to New Life Church, and our church family, for their prayers, love, and support. It was overwhelming,” she said.
Randy plans to buy a new home in the near future.
