Tiongson, Tungala win 24th Sletba Open
MANILA – John Tiongson remains focused and grounded in the face of stiff competition for the mixed seniors crown at 24th Sta. Bowling Association Bowling Championship Lucia East Tenpin (Sletba) on Saturday.
Tiongson, a member of the Pasig Bowling Association (PBA), remained undeterred after his toughest opponent, PTBA-Gruppo’s Benshir Layoso, scored a perfect match in game five to claim the title. leading position.
The last three games saw a close fight between the two, with Tiongson eventually coming out on top with a 10-game total of 2423 pins, followed by Layoso against 2390.
Jong Enriquez and Mario Magdaluyo, both from Sletba, scored 2288 and 2285 respectively, placing 3rd and 4th, with MBA’s Linda Gryzbowska, at 5th.
In the finals earlier in the day, Sletba’s Don Tungala really burned the lanes with his highest eight-game streak of 1895 to win the mixed-graded wrestler class.
After finishing 3rd after the first game, Tungala worked tirelessly to lead the field and overcame tough challenges from rising young players Matt Barredo of DATBI (1852) and Kassie Yap of Sletba (1847). .
MTBA-MKAI’s Marlon dela Cruz was fourth with 1813, and STAI’s Miguel Chua was fifth with 1804.
The finals of the 24th Sletba Open are being held at Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall Bowling Center in Cainta, Rizal.
