The Chicago White Sox announced Saturday afternoon that coach Tony La Russa will not return to the field this season and will not be managing the team for the remainder of the season.
Bench coach Miguel Cairo will continue as interim coach in the event of La Russa’s absence.
The decision was made after La Russa underwent additional examinations and medical procedures over the past week.
