DC released a full trailer let Dwayne Johnson take the lead Black Adam film, offers a clearer look at the forces that will be arrayed against The Rock’s rogue supervillain while continuing to emphasize the character’s edgy anti-hero credentials.
The trailer spends more time with the Justice Society heroes who are on a mission to “lock down” the “loose cannon” as Black Adam: in particular, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, whom we will use our powers this time, and Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman. We also get a glimpse of Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, the ruthless government executive from both the Suicide Squad and People of Peace TV series, it seems you are pulling the strings of the Justice Society to some extent. It’s interesting to see this character pull these franchises closer together as Warner Bros. seeks to unify DC’s disparate film characteristics.
The trailer also gives us our first look at a contender for the work’s real villain: a few shots show a horned figure who could only be Sabbac (Marwan Kenzari), a boss Russian gang that possesses the power of an ancient demon (and sometimes even the power of Satan). Sabbac is seen in battle with Hawkman, but not Black Adam.
For the most part, the trailer focuses on how moody and dangerous Black Adam is, and how he has the power to save the world or destroy it. A remarkably non-humorous Johnson snarls statements like, “These powers are not a gift, but a curse, born of rage,” and “I kneel before anyone. ” Though after losing a son and serving 5,000 years in prison, it’s understandable that he can feel a bit ostentatious.
Black Adamdirected by Spanish genre expert Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, Nonstop, The Shallows, Jungle Cruise), will hit theaters on October 21.
