MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo overcame a gritty Adamson side, winning from behind 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10 to extend the winning streak his team to three games at the UAAP Men’s Volleyball League Season 85 on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jian Salarzon scored 22 points based on 20 attacks, an ace and a save to lead the Blue Eagles’ comeback from a 1-2 loss.

“We are happy that we continue to win our games. But we made a lot of mistakes today, that’s why we struggled. We didn’t do what the coach wanted us to do,” Salarzon said after a stellar 19 reception.

Ateneo held his ground in the fourth inning and took a tenuous 11-9 lead in the fifth set, by scoring three consecutive points capped by Carlo Alegre’s setup error to hit the match point, 14 -9.

Amil Pacinio fouled to serve but Salarzon scored the knock-out to end the two-hour 49-minute game.

The Blue Eagles improved their record 5-4, beating fourth-placed La Salle ahead of the Holy Week break.

“In the fifth set, it’s all going to be in the hands of whoever serves and receives the serve well. Thankfully, we were able to serve and we were able to receive reasonably, that’s why we were able to get the fifth set,” coach Timmy Sto said. Thomas.

Pacinio also assisted Ateneo with 19 points and 19 hits, while Ken Batas, who didn’t play in the first set, finished with 18 points and 10 digs.
