LONDON: The UK’s new secretary, Suella Braverman, has proud relatives in Goa, Delhi and Cyprus. Braverman, who tracked down her father Christie Fernandes‘origin from Sokolwaddo, Assagao, and maternal origin to Calangute, having visited Goa on very few occasions. Christie attended school in Kenya before moving to London. Christie, the eldest of five siblings born in Kenya, is the only one to emigrate London from Kenya in the 1960s, while the rest of the family went to Goa. He lost a brother who was working in Delhi. His two sisters live in Goa and Cyprus with their families, and his brother is a priest in the Archdiocese of Delhi. “We are very proud of her. Suella’s uncle, Father Ayres Fernandes, director of a retreat center in Okhla, Delhi, said he was not surprised by Suella’s rise in politics. “She got a taste for politics from her mother.
