Ukraine, Russia say 20 soldiers on both sides released
KYIV: Ukraine and Russia say 20 soldiers both sides were released as part of prisoner exchange40 soldiers in all.
“The result of the negotiation process on the exchange today, 20 Russian soldier was returned from Ukrainian territory controlled by the Kyiv regime,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The soldiers are receiving necessary medical and psychological support and will soon be taken to a medical facility of the Ministry of Defense for treatment and rehabilitation.
Ukraine also said that 20 of its soldiers had been released from captivity in Olenivka, in the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. They are currently undergoing a health check.
The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, announced on Telegram: “We will bring everyone back.”
It is relatively rare for Russia to be open about the prisoner swap. The last large-scale prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, involving nearly 300 people, took place at the end of September.
