Vitalik Buterin expects Dogecoin and Zcash to move from PoW to PoS
- co-founder expressed his expectations and the transformation of Zcash.
- Like Ethereum Merge, the transition will change the PoW to PoS mechanism.
- Both Dogecoin and Zcash are guaranteed for the success of the transition.
After successfully converting Ethereum from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared his concerns about the transition of other blockchains including Dogecoin and Zcash .
During the Mainnet Conference on September 23, he said that he expects that Dogecoin and Zcash will also undergo a PoS transition:
As the proof of stock matures, I expect it to grow in legitimacy over time, (…). “I hope that Zcash will move on. I also very much hope that Dogecoin will evolve into proof of stake at some point
On September 15th, Ethereum performed the much-anticipated Merge, which went very smoothly. The merger is meant to transition from an energy-intensive proof-of-work model to an energy-efficient proof-of-stake model.
At the conference, Buterin chatted with Ryan Selkis, CEO of Messari, and Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn, CEO of Electric Coin Company. During the chat, Wilcox-O’Hearn said that he wasn’t sure about the Merge at first, but he was surprised after doing the merge:
This is interesting. And it will never work… And then you and your Ethereum [developers] proved me wrong. It totally works
Zooko also expressed her ecstasy at Merge’s good results. He was also unsure of the success of the transition when he first heard about it. But later, after completing the merge, the result was beyond his expectations.
Zooko told Buterin and his colleagues that “you should be proud of yourself for the rest of your life”.
Interestingly, when Buterin asked Zooko if they wanted to switch, he replied that he had been waiting to see what they could learn from Ethereum Merge and that they realized it worked well.
While talking about other blockchains, Buterin expressed his attitude in successfully converting all other blockchains. But he believes that at least some blockchains will get a significant upgrade.
