Quarterfinals of Risk! Tournament of Champions (Hair) The year 2022 ended on Monday, November 7, 2022.
The season 38 champions are back to claim a spot in the semi-finals of Hair 2022 is:
- Sam Buttrey, associate professor of operations studies at the Naval Graduate School from Pacific Grove, California (Professor Tournament winner).
- Jessica Stephens, a statistician from Nashville, Tennessee (second Chance Tournament champion).
- Zach Newkirk, an attorney from Arlington, Virginia (6 wins, average score $18,896).
The format of the tournament is the same as that of Risk!. The game’s official synopsis says:
“The presenter tests the contestants’ knowledge on a variety of topics and the winner is declared the title and keeps the prize money.”

The outcome of the November 7 episode was pretty predictable from the start. Categories for the first round included “Valley, ’70s or ’80s performance, dance; ‘D’ In Science, Let’s Handle It, in the Nato Phonetic Alphabet. “
Sam Buttrey succeeded in this round giving 20 correct answers and received $8,000. Despite losing his first Daily Double, he remained unstoppable. Zach Newkirk, the top winner in Season 38, answered only five questions correctly and scored $2,200. On the other hand, Jessica Stephens gave three correct answers but also gave the same number of wrong answers. As a result, her score is negative, at -$1,400.
In the second round, the categories were “Vice President, A Fall of Symbols, Brit Bits, 13 Letter Words, In That Novel, Herbs & Spices Names.”
Jessica tried her best to break out of the negative mark, but failed and ended up with a score – $5,800. Sam took the lead in the Double Jeopardy round and scored $19,600. Seeing his total, Zach tries to up his game by betting a large amount on his daily Doubles Day but loses his chance. He donated $5,200 in round 2.
Final Jeopardy is not as competitive as expected. Jessica was not allowed to participate because her 2nd round total ended with a negative score. Zach and Sam played the last round and won. When the latter total was higher, Zach landed in second place.
So Sam Buttrey won Risk! today.

On the November 7 episode, the category for the final round was “Phrases from the Ancient World”. The question, as a clue, reads:
“Cicero writes that a tyrant ordered this to be hung from the ceiling” by a ponytail”; His guest begged to leave.”
The correct answer to the last clue is “Sword of Damocles.”
Sam and Zach gave the correct answer, while Jessica couldn’t make it to the final round because her score was negative.

With today’s win, Sam has secured a place in the semi-finals, which will take place over three days. Quarterfinals 2022 Tournament of Champions started last Monday, and so far, the semifinalists are Maureen O’Neil, Andrew He, Tyler Rhode, John Focht, Eric Ahasic and Sam Buttrey.
