Woman’s naked body found in freezer inside North Side home

CHICAGO (CBS) – Police said the fragmented body of a woman was found Monday night in a freezer at a home in Arcadia Terrace, after the homeowner was reported missing.

Chicago Police Chief Brendan Deenihan said the woman owns a home in the 5900 block of North Washtenaw, and rents it out to tenants. One of those tenants called police around 7 p.m. Monday to report the woman missing.

According to Deenihan, the tenant phoned the police to tell officers that there was a suspect living in the house that other residents were afraid of. That tenant said the suspect recently called a tow truck and loaded a heavy bag onto the truck.

CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey spoke to the truck driver via camera, who said his company was called to pick up a Chevy Equinox from Washtenaw and that the vehicle’s owner, the suspect, was sitting in his back seat. He said the suspect was behaving strangely and at the end of the bus pulled a knife at him.

The tenant who called the police exchanged phone numbers with the tow truck driver, and after further investigation, police learned the suspect had dumped a large plastic bag in a trash can at Foster Beach, a block from the home. about 3 km to the east.

When detectives examined the bin, they found bloodied towels and secured the crime scene, and turned over the trash can and its contents to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Detectives also checked the missing woman’s home, where they found the body in a freezer. Sources told CBS 2 that the body was dismembered.

Deenihan said that after finding the body, detectives obtained a search warrant to gather more evidence at the home.

“We have a long way to go, but we clearly believe that the person who is clearly missing is unfortunately the individual we discovered,” Deenihan said.

The truck driver then told police that the suspect had pulled a knife on him, so police arrested her for a more severe assault with a knife. The driver told CBS 2 he didn’t know the woman he was driving could be involved in a murder. He said the police themselves told him on Monday night that they found “a human head” in the freezer.

Police say they are awaiting the Medical Examiner’s report but they strongly believe that the human remains belong to the missing homeowner.

Deenihan said the suspect invoked his right to remain silent in connection with the ongoing murder investigation.
